Cardinal welcomes EU plan to increase aid
Following the news that the EU has decided to increase aid to developing countries, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor said yesterday: "I welcome the decision by the governments of the EU. It is one essential step towards meeting the goal of halving world poverty by 2015 to which all the EU members and all the G8 governments are committed. More needs to be done especially for trade justice and I urge all Catholics to keep up the pressure on the world's wealthiest governments before the Gleneagles summit in July to ensure that the money is forthcoming."
