CIIR to become Progressio

International development charity, the Catholic Institute for International Relations (CIIR), is to change its name to Progressio in the new year. The name Progressio comes from Populorum Progressio, one of the central documents in Catholic Social Teaching that emerged from the Second Vatican Council. It deals with the challenges of development and the importance of justice in relations between rich and poor nations. Helena Molyneux, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said: "We must communicate to people young and old to attract them to our purpose and we need a name that captures what the organisation is today. We want our name to reflect the organisation's values of justice, solidarity, empowerment and development, reflect our progressive Catholic nature accurately, be short and easy to say, and to be usable and relevant in a number of different contexts and countries. Progressio fits the organisation perfectly." Ms Molyneux added: "We are confident that this move is the right one at this time. We draw on our history with pride and look to the future as Progressio with hope and optimism."
