London: nine students graduate from St Patrick's School of Evangelisation

Nine international students from six countries, including Canada, Poland, Scotland, Slovakia, and the USA have celebrated their Graduation from St Patrick's Evangelisation School (SPES), based at the Church of St Patrick, Soho, London. The Graduation celebration took the form of a Mass celebrated on the Feast of the Visitation, May 31, presided by the local Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Westminster, Bernard Longley. He was joined by priests, including Fr Paul McGinn of Allen Hall Seminary, Fr Matt Blake OCD, Fr Angelus FFR, and Fr Stephen Wang who have supported the students throughout their eight months of study. SPES was founded in 2002 in response to the late Holy Father John Paul II's call for a new evangelisation and the challenge for young people to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Participants undertake an eight month formation course in the Catholic Faith. This formation is lived out in community life and in sharing the Gospel through outreach and mission on the streets. Bishop Bernard Longley commented: "The Graduation Ceremony was a joyous occasion and was for the eight students a perfect end to a wonderful period of study. The work of St Patrick's Evangelisation School, centred and focused around the Parish of St Patrick's, Soho, comes under my own pastoral care as Bishop, and brings with it so much needed dynamism and vibrancy, life, youth and light. The beauty of the School is that in uniting young men and women from four continents, from different walks of life and contrasting cultures, it gives a living witness to the harmony that is intrinsic in the Catholic Church, becoming, as it were, a microcosm of the Universal Church."
