Italian nuns freed

Two Italian nuns abducted in Kenya over three months ago have been freed. Sister Maria Teresa Olivero and Sister Caterina Giraudo of the Contemplative Missionary Movement of Father Charles de Foucauld, were kidnapped at gunpoint on Novemeber 9th from the north eastern town of Elwak where they were working with poor on food and health promotion programs. They were then driven six miles across the border to Somali where they were held until Wednesday night. They are now believed to be at the Italian Embassy in Nairobi preparing to fly home. Speaking to an Italian television reporter yesterday, Sister Giraudo said she and Sister Olivero were well and that prayer had kept them going 'in an incredible way" throughout their captivity.
