Tourism award for Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool, will this week receive a Marque of Excellence for the welcome which its staff gives to visitors to the City. The award comes from the Northwest Multi Faith Tourism Association a body which seeks to offer help and support to places of worship and faith based groups of all faiths interested in or engaged in welcoming visitors to sacred places and tourist attractions in the region. The Marque for Excellence is awarded to sacred worship spaces such as Mosques, Cathedrals, Temples, Synagogues, Gurdwaras and Parish churches in the North West that surpass a standard of excellence in their welcome to visitors. The Award will be made to Cathedral Dean, Canon Anthony O'Brien, by Dame Lorna Muirhead, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, tomorrow, 15 February at 12 noon in the Gibberd Room of the Cathedral. Canon O'Brien said: 'I am delighted to receive this Award which recognises the hard work and dedication of our staff in welcoming visitors to the Metropolitan Cathedral throughout the year.' The Metropolitan Cathedral, which will mark the fortieth anniversary of its consecration in May, receives 250,000 visitors each year, many of whom are greeted by a team of voluntary guides who take them round the building and the Crypt. Staff also provide a welcome in the Piazza Restaurant, Visitor Centre and Gift Shop. This is in addition to the main purpose of the Cathedral as a living place of worship open to all. A building in which the visitor can find spiritual calm and a place of peace in the City. For more information see: www.liverpoolmetrocathedral.org.uk/index.htm
