Ask Gordon Brown to hit the aid target

¬†A new campaign, endorsed by CAFOD, Christian Aid and many other aid agencies, is encouraging people to ask Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer, to raise the UK's level of overseas aid. Although the rich countries of the north have repeatedly promised to increase the amount they give to 0.7% of GNP - UK aid remains less than half of that. A spokesman for CAFOD said: "Nearly half the world live on less than US$2 (£1.39) per day. In the last 30 years, the gap between the world's richest 20% and the poorest 20% of people has tripled. 1.2 billion people live in absolute poverty. Few of us can grasp these figures.
