¬†A priest, Fr Josť Ilario Arango, is the latest victim of the violence in Colombia. Fr Jose was shot dead on Thursday, as he walked out of his church after celebrating Mass. The local press broke the news. Although no one has claimed responsibility for the killing it is suspected that the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebels, committed the murder. In March, the 63 year-old Archbishop of Cali, Mgr IsaŪas Duarte Cancino, was killed after presiding at a wedding. Archbishop Duarte had been a vocal critic of of Colombia's illegal armed groups, guerrilla, paramilitaries and drug traffickers. Shortly before he was killed he had accused drugs barons of financing candidates in the March 10 congressional elections. More than 20 thousand came to San Pedro Cathedral in Cali to pay their last respects to Archbishop Duarte. Local residents set up an altar with flowers and candles on the site where he died and a gigantic image of him was placed at the entrance of the church. Speaking at the weekend, the Archbishop of Bogotŗ and Cardinal Primate of Colombia, Pedro Rubiano Saenz said: "The guerillas have threatened many members of the government and the church. We must pray for them and their victims. Too many people have been killed."
