¬†A limited number of places remain to take part in the Thai Sangkhlaburi Jungle Trek in aid of the Pattaya Orphanage in February 2003. The Pattaya Orphanage provides a loving home and education to some 700 orphaned and neglected children and disabled young people. The Trek takes place in the Kanchanaburi Province, home to the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai, in February 2002. The trekkers will spend six days trekking, bamboo rafting and elephant riding, and in doing so hope to raise £25,000 for the Orphanage. Once the challenge is complete, they will spend a day visiting the Orphanage and seeing the essential work which takes place there. The Orphanage gives children and young people an education, a home and the chance to lead an independent life. Associated projects include the School for Deaf Children, The School for Blind Children, The Street Kids Project, The Vocational School and the Job Placement agency. The Orphanage began in 1972 when Fr Ray Brennan, a Catholic priest working in Pattaya, Thailand, took in an abandoned baby. As news of his generosity spread, more and more children were left with him. Father Brennan still presides over the Orphanage today. "The first Trek last year was a huge success. We fully expect all participants to have a wonderful time on this one!" said Andrew Scadding, Chief Executive, the Pattaya Orphanage Trust. "It is a marvellous opportunity not only to see the beauty of the Thai jungle, but to experience at first hand the community of the Pattaya Orphanage and the good work being done there."
