Gunmen assassinate priest

Gunmen in Colombia have assassinated a priest, less than a week after two other clergymen were ambushed as they travelled back to their church. Rev Jose Juan Lozada Corteza, pastor of the Evangelical Christian Church of San Antonio was singled out on a public bus, taken off the vehicle by uniformed men and shot in the head in front of his fellow passengers. According to Amnesty International at least 72 Protestant pastors and 33 Catholic priests have been killed in the ongoing civil war in Colombia. Local sources believe the targeting of religious leaders is an attempt to silence the religious community working to end social unrest and civil disorder. On Friday last 32 people were killed and 162 injured when a car bomb exploded outside a social club in Bogota.
