Delegation of bishops visit Colombia

 A delegation of European and North American bishops is going to visit Colombia this week, on invitation of the Colombian Bishops Conference, to bring a message of the Holy Father and for "mutual reassurance through faith" the Vatican has announced. The delegation will be headed by Archbishop Paul J Cordes, chairman of the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum", made up of Monsignor Josef Sayer, director of Misereor and representatives of the Bishop Conferences of Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Switzerland and the United States. The agenda includes a visit to the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignor Beniamino Stella, to the representatives of the Colombian Bishops Conference, the Bishops of the various regions, the Catholic NGO's present in the nation. The bishops will also meet the President of the Republic, Alvaro Uribe Vélez, and Vice-President Francisco Santos Calderón, the UN representative for Colombia Michael Früling and that of the UN High Commission for Refugees. Talks will also be held with politicians and local authorities. A visit will also be programmed with the inmates of Medellín and to various poor neighbourhoods of Quibdó. On Saturday there will also be a special celebration in Bojayá in memory of the victims of the Bella Vista Church massacre that occurred one year ago.
