Uganda: six charged over murder of missionary
Comment Email Print
¬†Six people have been arrested and charged in North Uganda, for the murder of an elderly Comboni missionary, the Missionary News Service report. Fr Luciano Fulvi, 76, was killed on March 30 in his room at the mission of Layibi, near Gulu. Comboni provincial superior Fr Guido Oliana told MISNA: "The investigations are proceeding. It appears that the initial motive of theft is not sufficient". Among the arrested was a former young cook of the mission, who in the hours following the crime had returned to the house with traces of blood on his clothing. The police tracked him and thanks to his confession arrested another five suspects. They are youths aged between 18 and 25, and one 50 year-old. Fr Oliana said: "It appears that someone was behind Fr Fulvio's murder ≠ but it is unclear who could have organised the crime". For the moment police have ruled out LRA (lord's Resistance Army), rebels from their investigations. Fr Fulvi, originally from Uzzano, Pistoia province and diocese of Pescia in Italy, worked with young people at the mission from 1956 to 1964. He then stayed in England and Scotland until 1990, when he returned to Uganda. Source: MISNA
