Comment Email Print
¬†An Italian missionary priest working in Brazil, is believed to have been murdered by intruders last Thursday. The body of parish priest, Mgr Bruno Baldacci, was found in his room at the church of Nossa Senhora das Candeias, in the town of Vitůria da Conquista, Bahia State by his secretary and housekeeper. Police believe he was the victim of a violent robbery. FR Baldacci spent all his life as a priest in Brazil, where he went following a missionary Bishop and where he was ordained a priest. Recently he had been appointed Episcopal vicar for one of the diocese's pastoral zones. Bishop Bassano Staffieri of the diocese of La Spezia issued a statement expressing deep sadness for the violent death of Mgr Baldacci, on behalf of all the diocese. Recalling that he had "had spent many years in Brazil as a missionary", the Bishop entrusted the dead priest to the prayers of the people urging them to "follow his generous example of service of the poorest of the poor". The police have already arrested one suspect in connection with the crime. Source: Fides
