Young missionary dies in Kenya

A Congolese missionary priest who has been working in Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria, since his ordination in 2004 has died in Nairobi.

Father Ghislain Mulumbu Ndumba, aged 36, was a member of the Missionaries of Africa. He died last Wednesday.

A statement sent to CISA by the regional house of the missionaries in Nairobi said Fr Mulumbu had been transferred from his home to the Kenyan capital for treatment after falling ill while on holiday.

"He had returned to his home in Kasongo Diocese (DRC) for holidays in June and was due to leave early in September for studies at Dar Comboni in Cairo. However, during his leave he fell ill and had to be admitted to hospital in Bukavu where he spent three weeks. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.

"His condition deteriorated and he was transported to Nairobi on September 7. He was admitted at Karen Hospital where, despite receiving the best treatment possible, he died of multiple organ failure on the evening of Wednesday, September 20."

The body of the late missionary was to be received late on Friday at the Missionaries of Africa Formation House in Balozi Estate, South B, Nairobi, followed by a Eucharistic celebration and a prayer vigil.

On Saturday, after prayer in the Formation House chapel at 8am, the body was transferred to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Church, South B, for the Requiem Mass. Burial followed at St Austin's Parish, Lavington, at 11am.
