Letter from India: Bible quiz at St Xavier's Parish
Comment Email Print
¬†Our parishioners had yet another chance to express their love for the Word of God as they prepared meticulously and took part enthusiastically in the sixth round of the Bible Quiz based on Acts 16-28. About sixty, including children, crowded the class room in which the written quiz was organized by Sr. Mary C.J. Showing about 18 pages of personal notes prepared on the Acts, Mrs Philomina, an employee with the MCD, said that she memorized much of it. "Everybody should read and understand the Bible as it is everything for a Christian; age shouldn't be a factor. All should read!" ≠ she says. The 75 -year young Mr Frank Amaral illustrated the quiz to be 'smashy and mind-blowing' as he attempted it with his daughter Dominica after a preparation of almost 15 days. Dominica was frank in stating that her Daddy studied more. However Master Justin, 14 years, was quite cool about it: "I spent about three hours yesterday" ≠ he said as he held a copy of the New American Bible. The enthusiasm was quite expressive as some children were found referring to their notes even during the Holy Eucharist and during the catechism class that preceded the quiz! "This is an effective means of spreading the Word and of creating interest in people and families. The response has been very encouraging. I do see many parents sitting together preparing for the quiz. I am planning to go another round on the gospels in the coming months," Sr. Mary, CJ, said at the end of the quiz. This was the sixth quiz programme of the parish in the recent times. The four evangelist were covered before staring the Acts in two phases.
