Catholic Union appoints Director

The Catholic Union has appointed Nigel Parker as Director of the Catholic Union of Great Britain and the Catholic Union Charitable Trust.

This is a new part-time position which is designed to increase the impact and effectiveness of the work of the Catholic Union and to enhance its relationships with Parliamentarians and others providing a Catholic voice in public affairs and working for the common good.

Nigel Parker was educated at The Campion School, Hornchurch, Essex and Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he read Law. He is a barrister (Middle Temple) and served for the bulk of his career as a legal adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, from which he retired early in 2015. He has extensive experience of public international law, EU and English law, diplomacy and public affairs.

Nigel has been a Life Member of the Catholic Union for many years. He joined the Council of the Catholic Union in 2015 and was elected Chairman of the Parliamentary and Public Affairs Committee in 2016.

The Catholic Union of Great Britain was founded in 1870 and its primary objective is to champion the spiritual, moral and social teaching of the Catholic Church in the public sphere.

The Catholic Union makes representations to Parliament, the Government, regulatory bodies and the media. It also organises public lectures and will be holding its annual Summer Gathering on Saturday 15 July 2017 at Arundel Castle, West Sussex.
