Racial Justice Sunday
On 12 February 2017, the Catholic Church in England and Wales will be celebrating Racial Justice Sunday. This year the theme is 'Our Community'.
This annual day of celebration aims to raise awareness of the responsibility of the Church to eradicate racial discrimination in all its forms within the church and wider society. We call upon all Catholics - lay, religious and ordained - to promote and celebrate our communities wherever we worship, work and live. Racial justice is a gospel imperative since Christ called us not just to welcome all who we meet but to treat people with dignity and respect in every aspect of our private and public lives.
As a practical expression of support, second collections are asked to be taken on this weekend. Whilst not mandatory, these second collections help to be a continued vital source of income to support the Church's work for racial justice. Money raised be sent to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales.
