Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility, September newsletter
The Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR) offers a monthly round-up of news from the Churches and other sources in the areas of economic justice, human rights and environmental sustainability.
The September newsletter highlights Good Money Week - formerly National Ethical Investment Week - October 30th - November 5th. This will include participation in a morning seminar in Edinburgh on November 3rd - see http://goodmoneyweek.com
ECCR Board member, Anglican Bishop Michael Doe, will reflect on Good Money Week in the November newsletter from Churches Together in England www.cte.org.uk/Groups/234746/Home/News/CTe_News/CTe_News.aspx
Global Justice Now - formerly the World Development Movement - is supporting countries from across the global south who have come together to push for a new treaty at the United Nations that could hold transnational corporations to account for corporate abuses under international human rights law. The UN Human Rights Council is calling on governments to begin work on developing a set of legally-binding rules for transnational corporations. https://action.globaljustice.org.uk/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1784&ea.campaign.id=55528&ea.tracking.id=xlfexgxz
In the House of Lords this month, the Anglican Bishop of St Albans asked the Government how they intend to address the gap between the remuneration of senior executives and their employees. The Government responded by saying it intends to publish a consultation document later this year which will set out a range of options for improving corporate governance, including measures to strengthen the way executive pay is set and reported https://churchinparliament.org/2016/09/08/bishop-of-st-albans-questions-government-about-executive-pay/
This monthly e-Newsletter is produced by ECCR to share information between its corporate members and individual supporters.
