Holy Week reading from CTS

The Beauty of Confession with Pope Francis; The Road that Leads to Life - Lent and Easter with Pope Francis, and Rich in Mercy by St John Paul II are three new titles from CTS that make perfect Holy Week reading.

In The Beauty of Confession with Pope Francis, Discovering God's Mercy, by Fr Donncha Ó hAodha, Pope Francis speaks of repentance, sin and confession from personal experience, as someone who is poor and needy. He reminds us how deep and universal God's mercy is, especially during the Year of Mercy. What place should the Sacrament of Reconciliation have in our lives? Whether we go to Confession often or have not been for a long time, Francis's words can reach us. Why do we need Confession? Are we truly forgiven? How to overcome feelings of unworthiness? How often should one go to Confession? These questions and many others are explored and answered.

St John Paul II's Rich in Mercy (Dives in Misericordia), Meeting the Loving Father, tells the story of God's boundless mercy, beginning with the Old Testament and God's love shown in the history of the chosen people of God, through to the ultimate act of mercy: sending his son Jesus, our Redeemer. It is an excellent way to meditate on the meaning of mercy in the Year of Mercy. First published in 1980, this highly readable Encyclical Letter (Dives in Misericordia) is St John Paul's persuasive presentation of a God who throughout history has shown himself to be "rich in mercy".

The Road that Leads to Life - Lent and Easter with Pope Francis. Pope Francis takes us on the journey through the season of Lent, a time of special contemplation, through Holy Week to the time of joy that is Eastertide. "While we cross the Lenten 'desert', we keep our gaze fixed upon Easter, which is the definitive victory of Jesus against the Evil One, against sin and against death. Now let us enter into the desert without fear, because we are not alone: we are with Jesus, with the Father and with the Holy Spirit."
