Ireland: Lent campaign to feed neglected children in Thailand

A charity campaign has been launched in Ireland through Lent, to provide nutritious meals to sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in Thailand.

The Feed a Future campaign is being run by Thai Children's Trust Ireland and asks people to save just €1 a day over the 40 days of Lent to support schools and orphanages in some of the most poverty-stricken areas of the country.

Sarnelli House, near Nong Khai in the north-east, and Heavenly Home, on the Thai-Burma border in the west, are just two of the safe havens to benefit from this urgent appeal. They house and educate some of the most neglected children escaping dire poverty, violence and sexual abuse and those that have simply been abandoned by their families and left to survive on the streets. These homes provide a warm and loving environment for these children as well as much-needed shelter, protection and the simple sustenance of a hot meal.

CEO of Thai Children's Trust Ireland, Adele Kierans, says: "It costs just 46 cent a day to provide a nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner for children at the homes but with numbers growing, the need is becoming ever more acute. A one off donation of €40 this Lent can feed a child for three months. We very much hope people will show their generosity by supporting this campaign to enable these vulnerable children the chance to thrive."
