Pope prays at Basilica of St Mary Major

Pope Francis came to pray at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major today (Monday), after his arrival at Ciampino Airport in Rome. The Pope had just concluded his 10-day Apostolic Voyage to Cuba and the United States.

The Holy Father brought flowers to put before the image of 'Salus Populi Romani', the Byzantine icon of the Madonna and Child, located in the Basilica's Pauline Chapel.

Pope Francis has visited the icon in the basilica before and after each of his Apostolic trips.
