London: Prof Sanneh to give keynote speech at World Mission Conference

The second World Mission Conference is taking place on Wednesday, 21 October 2015 in London. Building on the success of last year's inaugural conference, the Catholic Missionary Union, Missio and the Mill Hill Missionaries are delighted to once more jointly hold the conference, hosted by Heythrop College.

The internationally renowned professor of missions and world Christianity at Yale Divinity School, and professor of history at Yale University, is this year's keynote speaker. Professor Lamin Sanneh is the author of over a hundred articles on religious and historical subjects, and several books, including Translating the Message: The Missionary Impact on Culture.

Professor Sanneh will be speaking on the theme, Dialogue between North and South: What can we learn about mission and interfaith? Prof. Sanneh is well placed to speak to this, having been born in Gambia, studying at the Near East School of Theology, Beirut, before earning his doctorate in Islamic history from the University of London. He became a Roman Catholic having been part of the Islamic faith.

Professor Sanneh is also a member of the Pontifical Commission of the Historical Sciences and the Pontifical Commission on Religious Relations with Muslims.

Speaking about the upcoming conference, Canon James Cronin, Missio National Director, said: "We are delighted to once again be co-hosting this event, gathering people who are passionate about the Church in the world. At this time it is important that we think about how overseas mission and interfaith dialogue also impacts on our own faith communities here in the UK."

The conference is for all people interested in 'mission': lay people, priests, missionaries, religious, students and academics. It will include input from Prof. Sanneh, responses from Archbishop Kevin McDonald, Chair of the Bishops' Conference Committee for Other Faiths and the Committee for Catholic-Jewish Relations, and Fr Paul Richardson, who spent many years in Papua New Guinea. There will also be time for discussion, and lunch will be provided.
The event is free, but prior booking is essential.

Please book online at: www.cmu.org.uk/conference, or call 01704 533708.
