Booking Now: Catholic People's Week on The Cosmic Christ

Boars Hill, Oxford

August 18+ weekend
The Cosmic Christ
21st to 24th August - fully catered

The Boars Hill August weekend will be co-chaired by Barbara Echlin and Barbara Kentish, with speakers Edward Echlin and Mary Grey who have a special interest in the theology of creation. St Paul said in a letter to the Colossians that, 'everything is groaning in the act of giving birth'. The weekend will be exploring the thinking of creation theologians. They will reflect on the 'Cosmic Christ' in the context of the healing of creation and look at Jesus as he became the Christ, connecting all of creation with God. Insights from the new environment encyclical of Pope Francis, 'Laudato Si' will be discussed, and an inter-faith perspective brought in.

Three will be a look at how human society interacts with our planet and those around us, exploring the idea of pilgrimage in relation to 'ecological conversion'. There will be a specific look at pilgrimages leading up to the December 2015 Paris Climate talks. A Creation Walk is a possibility if weather allows.

In his 'Hymn of the Universe', Teilhard de Chardin said that the world itself is the Body of Christ. This leads to a look at the bigger picture of Christianity which incorporates care for God's creation, including climate stability. The Carmelite Friars are on site to lead the group in the Eucharist and to offer spiritual support.
