Fr Francis Joseph Laishley SJ, RIP + Funeral details


Fr Francis Joseph Laishley SJ, a much beloved lecturer at Heythrop College and member of the community at Mount Street, died on at about 6.15pm on Wednesday 1 July, the day before his 82nd birthday. He was in the 63rd year of religious life and the 48th year of priesthood. Fr Joe Laishley had been admitted to University College Hospital last Friday with a chest infection.

Fr Joe taught systematic theology at Heythrop in London for more than 25 years, living at Southwell House, in the Heythrop community at Cavendish Square, and, from 1993 until his death, in Mount Street.

He retired from full-time teaching after a heart attack in 1999, but continued as a part-time tutor and writer.

The Mount Street website says: "He was a constant presence at the celebrations of Mass in Farm Street, and was always kind and gentle, particularly with his devoted flock of pigeons in Mount St Garden. He was a great admirer of our musicians and encouraged all of the recent developments in parish life and mission here. We pray for his relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.

Fr Joe's Funeral will take place at Farm Street.
Vigil of Reception: Monday July 13th at 6:30pm (after 6:00pm Mass)
Funeral Mass: Tuesday July 14th at 11am
Burial: Tuesday July 14th at Garth Rd Cemetery, Wimbledon at 2pm
