The Latin Mass Society will play host to conservative Italian Catholic historian and author Professor Roberto de Mattei next month when he delivers the Michael Davies Memorial Lecture and addresses the LMS Annual General Meeting.

Rome-based Prof de Mattei specialises in 16th and 20th Century history with particular focus on the history of religious and political ideas.

On Friday, 10th July, Prof de Mattei's lecture 'From the Second Vatican Council to the Synod: The Teaching of Michael Davis' follows a Requiem for Traditionalist Catholic Writer Michael Davies at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory, Warwick Street, London. Both the Mass at 5.3 pm and the lecture at 6.30 pm are open to all. There is a £5 entry fee for the lecture, payable on the door.

The following day, Saturday 11 July, he will speak to the LMS AGM on 'The Importance of Tradition in our Times'. The meeting is followed by High Mass at Westminster Cathedral.

LMS Chairman Joseph Shaw said: "I am delighted to welcome Prof Roberto de Mattei to address the Latin Mass Society. Prof de Mattei is a highly respected historian and one of the most intellectually authoritative voices in the Traditional Catholic movement.

"His 2010 'The Second Vatican Council - An Unwritten Story' is an important contribution to the on-going debate on the significance of the Council, setting it into its historical context with the help of hitherto unseen archival sources."

The lecture and AGM form part of a series of events to mark the Latin Mass Society's 50th anniversary.

Full details of both events and booking details are on the LMS events calendar. See: www.lms.org.uk/
