Edinburgh: Intensive icon painting course


An five-day intensive course will take place at the Edinburgh School of Icon Painting, from 1 - 5 June. The workshop is designed for students of all abilities. No previous experience is required. The aim of the course is to help you understand the tradition of icon painting through studying masterpieces, and through their inspiration to create your own icon.

Over five days you will be guided through initial stages of the process of creating an icon. After a short introduction on what an icon is, you will explore the technique of egg tempera; learn to make egg yolk and wine binding medium and mix your own paints using dry pigments. You will then develop your work with the guidance of an experienced tutor and complete your icon. You will be encourage to find your own voice, to be creative and experiment.

Basia Mindewicz is an experienced icon painter and teacher, who will introduce every aspect of the process of making an icon, emphasising the importance of personal relationship with the Divine reality, and creativity.

The cost is £255. There is a non refundable deposit of £70 non refundable deposit required with the registration. Remaining balance of £185 to be paid until 18th May. This would be refunded only if there are no spaces left.
