Santa's helpers working overtime at Leamington Spa Catholic church
The Catholic parish of St Peter Apostle Church, Leamington Spa has been busily preparing to deliver food and toy parcels to many local families in need this Christmas. Parishioners from St Peter Apostle Church, Leamington Spa have generously donated many hours of their time to others in the run up to Christmas: 78 parishioners gave time at the local supermarket to appeal for food donations to the Leamington Food Bank.
Thanks to the generosity of Tesco, customers and parishioners, St Peter Apostle Church has been able to distribute 55 food parcels to local families in need. Since the beginning of October, parents and children at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School have been donating toys and books to the Christmas appeal and the parish has made sure that older children are not left out at Christmas, they will also receive a sack full of presents. Generous donations have been received from staff at the Calor Gas Head Office in Leamington.
Volunteers spent a weekend wrapping and packing toys for 90 children. They also prepared food parcels and delivered the toys and food to families in need in Leamington. These families were chosen by health visitors, head teachers and parishioners. Chocolates and a Christmas card have been delivered by volunteers to over 80 housebound parishioners.
“It has been a joy to see the range of people who have helped with the Christmas appeals this year and everyone who has been involved is looking forward to getting together again next Christmas, “ said the parish priest of St Peter Apostle Church, Fr John Cross.
