St Albans: Nicholas Breakspear School hosts Christmas High Tea Party for Senior Citizens

Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School in St Alban's, opened up the school to the wider community today to hold a special event for senior citizens in the area. The idea, suggested by the head boy and girl team earlier this year was developed by numerous sixth formers and teachers who dedicated their time to create an enjoyable afternoon.

The event was Christmas themed and held in the school main hall with a large Christmas tree and decorative tables. A lot of preparation went into the lead up of the day and it was rewarding to have been told what a 'great job' the school had done in organising the event.

The guests were extremely complimentary of the student body who 'looked after them very well'. They further expressed their thanks to the school for bringing the community together, allowing them to socialise and mingle together.

The food presented at the party was made by the schools food tech department and numerous students who all volunteered their time. The multiple range of sandwiches and desert treats were well received especially the scones which were described as 'amazing' by Mrs McDouall. The mulled wine and mild apple juice was well received also with Mrs.Clark admitting she 'could get addicted' to it.

To entertain the visitors of the school the choir and musicians came together to perform a variety of carols and hymns to which many of the guests sang along to. Year 10 students also created a Christmas melody blending all the well-known Christmas songs into a joyful song.

Furthermore, we had a surprise visit from Father Christmas who delivered the gift of a photo frame to everyone that attended. Photos of the day were printed out and given to the guests to place in their frames so that they can remember their time at Nicholas Breakspear.

However, one guest received a very special gift from the school. Diane Brampton, who is known as Peggy, turned 100 in September this year and was keen to share her letter that she received from the queen with students and friends alike.

The day was hugely successful and enjoyed by everyone who attended. The visitors were extremely thankful for the time spent at Nicholas Breakspear and expressed their desire to return to the school for future events.
