London: 21 Years on Death Row - A living testimony

Nicholas Yarris

Nicholas Yarris

Hear the direct testimony of a death row inmate – Nicholas Yarris, who spent 21.5 years in prison, with the accusation of murder, although he was innocent. On 3 September, 2003, based on DNA’s results, the court quashed Yarris’s conviction and he became the 140th person in the United States to be exonerated by post-conviction DNA testing - the 13th DNA exoneration from death row.

"With his face inches from mine, the guard began to address me in this very calm, detached voice: You're dead. Everyone you knew or loved is dead. Your family and everyone else who knew you are dead. And since you are dead, dead men do not speak in my unit, do you understand me?"

Nicholas will be speaking at 41 Kensington Church Street, W8 4BB London on 23 Sunday November at 3:30pm. The
Community of Sant'Egidio London‎ have organised the event.

Pope Francis recently reaffirmed: “All Christians and men of good faith are therefore called upon today to fight, not only for the abolition of the death penalty – whether it is legal or illegal and in all its forms – but also to improve the conditions of incarceration to ensure that the human dignity of those deprived of their freedom is respected”.
