Rowan Williams to give 2014 Archbishop Romero Lecture
Lord Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury will deliver this year's Archbishop Romero Memorial Lecture, entitled: 'A saint for the whole people of God - Romero and the ecumenical future'.
The lecture takes place at St Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham, B4 6EU on Friday, 12 December at 6pm.
The evening will be hosted by Archbishop Bernard Longley. All are welcome.
The Anglican Church has shown a great reverence for Archbishop Romero through the years. There is a statue of him over Westminster Abbey's West Door as one of the Twentieth Century Martyrs. ( the others are: Maximilian Kolbe, Manche Masemola, Janani Luwum, Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia, Martin Luther King, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Esther John, Lucian Tapiedi, and Wang Zhiming.) There is also an Anglican Collect Prayer every year for 'Archbishop Romero and the Martyrs of El Salvador' .
Dr Williams has been a Patron of the Romero Trust since its foundation in 2005. Archbishop Bernard Longley is co-chair of ARCIC - the Anglican - Roman Catholic International Commission.
