Responding to Save the Children's report on child poverty released today, 28 May, Helen O’Brien, Chief Executive of Caritas Social Action, said: “Child poverty cannot be swept under the carpet any longer – it has become a reality for many households in the UK, a fact made even starker by the figures released today by Save the Children. Our members see families on a daily basis struggling to bridge the gap between household income and essential costs.

The fact that children in one of the world’s richest countries live in poverty is shocking enough – but what is even more worrying is that two-thirds of those children live in working families.
