Catholic Church agency responds to 'shocking' rise in UK child poverty
Responding to Save the Children's report on child poverty released today, 28 May, Helen O’Brien, Chief Executive of Caritas Social Action, said: “Child poverty cannot be swept under the carpet any longer – it has become a reality for many households in the UK, a fact made even starker by the figures released today by Save the Children. Our members see families on a daily basis struggling to bridge the gap between household income and essential costs.
The fact that children in one of the world’s richest countries live in poverty is shocking enough – but what is even more worrying is that two-thirds of those children live in working families.
