Invitation to Tweet favourite Bible passages
Twitter users across England and Wales are being invited to share their faith by tweeting their favourite Bible passages. Beginning on the Feast of St Mark on 25 April, for seven days, the Bishops' Conference website will post a selection of the bishops favourite passages and Catholic twitter users are invited to do the same.
The initiative coincides with the Word of The Lord Conference taking place in Ushaw near Durham, 24-26 April. The conference is the first national Catholic Scripture conference that has been offered for a generation and aims to encourage and support Catholics to engage with the Bible and use it confidently in service of pastoral ministry and evangelisation.
The conference is a Year of Faith initiative of the Bishops' Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis, in partnership with Bible Society and the Centre for Catholic Studies. Bishop Kieran Conry, Chair of the Department, said: "This is an opportunity to try and come to grasp the Scriptures more fully, first of all as a means of personal spiritual growth. In reading and reflecting on the Scriptures, especially if you can do something like a shared lectio divina, the Scriptures are a way of really deepening our relationship with the Christ that we meet in these words."
"Then, of course, they become a very powerful missionary, evangelising tool - this is the message, this is what we have to proclaim, that this is the story of our salvation, that Jesus died, rose from the dead as the expression of God's love for us. This is the message that people need to hear and it's in here [in the Bible]... So share everything you can."
Speakers at the conference will include Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP, Fr Henry Wansbrough OSB and Mrs Michelle Moran.
