6 December is the feast day of St Nichols - patron saint of children and the real 'Santa Claus'. The three day long Big Give also starts on this day, at 10am. From that time, every pound you donate will be doubled. This year the Thai Children's Trust hope to raise £50,000 through the Big Give, to provide life-changing treatment for children from Burma.

Burma Children's Medical Fund (BCMF) has been operating in Mae Tao Clinic, Thailand, since 2006. During this time they have helped over 500 patients to get the treatment they desperately need.

Medical assistance in Burma is largely inaccessible to the majority of the population due to the high cost of treatment and lack of available facilities. Services in Burma have been under-resourced and under-funded for many years, and although changes have been announced in health funding, it is not going to make the huge difference that is needed to bring health services up to standard for the whole population.

Children, and their parents or guardians, travel for days in some cases to reach Mae Tao Clinic and the services of BCMF. Unfortunately, they have limited funding and sometimes have to turn children away - knowing that they are their only hope.

Through the Big Give 2012 challenge the Trust aims to raise £50,000 to pay for an extra 22 children to receive medical treatment.

Please join the Big Give at 10am on Thursday 6 December and make your donation here: http://thaichildrenstrust.org.uk/getinvolved/big-give-2012
