Cardinal Turkson: 'Mission is about well-being of humans on earth'
Cardinal Turkson spoke of the need to bring Kingdom values on earth in a speech he gave to supporters of Missio at Westminster Cathedral Hall on Saturday.
Addressing 250 guests, the Cardinal said: “Mission is about the well-being of humans on earth. Human development is an expression of the Gospel.” His Eminence also stressed the importance of the Red Boxes which last year brought in over 3 million pounds for the overseas mission of the Church. “Those small boxes that you keep do a lot of miracles that you never see”, he said.
The Cardinal, who is the current president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, also commented on the work of the Church in Ghana, where he was Archbishop for many years. He thanked Catholics in England and Wales for their long term support and reminded them that the Church in Ghana had its origins in Britain, having been founded by a Liverpudlian. He encouraged Catholics in England and Wales to continue their support of Missio so that the worldwide Church can flourish and the love of God can be brought to all people.
