Friar from Assisi to release first album
History will be made next month, when a Franciscan Friar based in Assisi, releases his debut album: 'Voice from Assisi' through DECCA Records/Universal on 15 October.
Friar Alessandro, who is a member of the Franciscan community in Assisi works as a carpenter and guide for visitors, as well as assisting with the church choir. He is the first Friar to have landed a major record deal. His album was made at Abbey Road studios and was produced by the legendary Mike Hedges - who worked with U2, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers and others. He discovered Alessandro while on a visit to Italy.
Having taken a personal vow of poverty, Friar Alessandro will not accept any money from sales of his album and his day to day life will not change. What has changed is the way in which the Friar chooses to keep in touch with fans of his music....turning to 21st century technology to actively engage in the social media channels of both Facebook and Twitter.
