Liverpool: Christians say: 'God Loves the NHS' | God Loves the NHS
Staff working in every sector of the NHS will be reminded that 'God Loves the NHS' as Christians from many denominations across the north of England gather at a Liverpool hospital on 12 May.

Rarely a day goes by without a negative headline about the NHS and it is easy for tired and over worked health professionals to feel undervalued. This day conference, which is being held at Aintree University Hospital's exhibition centre, seeks to provide a time to encourage stressed NHS workers, clinical and non-clinical, and space for them to reflect on the role of God in their lives and work.

Delegates will be addressed by John Wyatt, Professor of Ethics and Perinatology at University College London and Chair of the Ethics Study Group of the Christian Medical Fellowship.  His talk on 'Opportunity and Hope in a pressured environment' will set the tone for a conference which includes a host of renowned speakers talking about a range of subjects relevant to the modern health professional.

These include:

*        Finding a Common Purpose: Kingdom values in the NHS
*        Care and compassion vs meeting targets
*        Staying sane!: How to maintain a positive mental and spiritual health

The conference will enable delegates to explore how their faith can help them in the different roles they hold within the NHS given the growing pressures from the increasing health needs of patients, financial
pressures and the need to maintain quality of services.

Rev Richard Gedge, one of the conference organisers said: "God loves  the NHS in Liverpool is the first such conference we've held in the North West following a number of similar days around the country. We're hoping it will provide a day of support, practical ideas and love for the many Christian health workers in the region. Open to anyone with a faith - you don't need to be a church goer - we want people to know that God loves them and God loves the NHS".

Mr Bruce Pennie, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Aintree University Hospital and one of the speakers added: "It's very hard to be working in the NHS in 2012. I've seen demands on us change enormously since I first qualified, and we want to show how our faith can help us with that challenge."

'God Loves the NHS' is hosted by an ecumenical group of Christians working in the NHS in Merseyside and supported by the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool.

Bookings are open until 10 May at 12 noon. For more details go to http://www.godlovesnhs.org
