Archbishop Nichols to speak at University of Leicester
Archbishop Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, will deliver the 2012 Sir Sigmund Sternberg Interfaith Lecture at the University of Leicester on Tuesday March 13.
Entitled: 'The Journey to God and Faith Today', Archbishop Nichols will speak about four main topics: The sacredness of our world and how awareness of the sacred has fashioned so much of all that surrounds us; A brief explanation of the principles which guide and shape the efforts of the Catholic Church in inter-religious dialogue; How our religious beliefs can contribute to public debate; and one example of a remarkable witness to the importance of the spiritual quest in our journey to God.
Archbishop Nichols said: "I would especially like people to gauge from the talk the importance of the contemplative dimension of our human existence, which we are danger of losing in our contemporary culture. Yet is precisely this contemplative dimension, this sense of always standing before God, that gives our lives their true
depth, motivation and endurance."
The lecture takes place in the Rattray Lecture Theatre at 5.30pm on Tuesday 13 March 2012. It is free and open to the public.
No advance ticket is required but for more information please contact Barbara O'Neill at bjd5@le.ac.uk or on 0116 252 5386.
The Sir Sigmund Sternberg Annual Lecture series is designed to promote inter-faith dialogue. Last year's lecture was given by Conservative peer Baroness Warsi.
