India: NGO warns 'spies' are infiltrating Churches
Islamic fundamentalists and Hindu radicals are infiltrating the Christian community and Christian NGOs in India with the aim of obtaining information that can be used to incite sectarian hatred when it is posted on the internet. The Catholic Secular Forum, an ecumenical NGO working in India for the rights of Christians report that certain individuals have been acting as 'spies' and then passing on information to extremist political parties and terrorist organizations.
The information relates to conversions, baptism certificates, details about the members of the community, and records concerning property. Much information is private and confidential, but the radicals seem to be broadcasting it in order to support their thesis such as: 'Christians carry out fraudulent conversions'.
According to the CSF and other Christian NGOs, the spread of information about celebrations for baptisms and marriages of converted Christians on the internet has increased, with family photos and videos posted up on social networking sites identifying all the parties concerned.
The CSF said the circulation of images accompanied by false information could endanger the lives of Christians and is likely to generate a new wave of violence against them.
