Passion Play in Southwark
The Passion of Christ will be staged by SVP Players from Menevia on 8 April at St George's Cathedral, Southwark.
Based on the play by Brian Griffiths, The Road to Calvary provides a detailed and revealing account of the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. A previous review of the play describes "The events leading up to the crucifixion are explored in depth, exposing an intricate web of lies and deceit. Beneath the political wrangling and intrigue runs an undercurrent of violence, which culminates in the mob calling for the release of Barrabas and the death of Jesus."
The Road to Calvary helps in preparation for Easter, bringing the audience closer to the truths contained in St John's Gospel and telling a familiar story in a fresh and exciting way that will deepen the Christian understanding of the Easter season.
The Road to Calvary will be performed at 7.30pm on 8 April 2011 at St George's Cathedral, Lambeth Road, SE1 7HY.
Tickets will be £10 adults; £5 concessions (NUS, under 16s, OAPs); £25 family ticket (2 adults & 2 children) There is no interval and the performance lasts 90 minutes.
