Christians, Christian charities in New Years Honours List


The New Years Honours List included the following names of Catholics and members of other denominations who have received awards and those working for Christians charities. (The list isn't complete but names most of those where a religious affiliation is obvious on the list).


MBEs

The Reverend Christopher Bower, for service to the community in Northern Ireland.

Mrs Catherine Greenlees, for service to Christian Aid.

Carlene Firmin, senior policy officer at Race on the Agenda and chief executive of the GAG Project, for services to girls' and women's issues.
 
Tom Hewitt, co-founder of Umthombo Street Children.

Mrs Glenda Howells, for service to the Salvation Army and to the community in Maesteg and Port Talbot.

Ivor Rickard, formerly Salvation Army chaplain, HM Young Offenders' Institution Aylesbury.

The Reverend Thomas William Tait, for voluntary service to the Air Training Corps.

Mrs June Tracey, chair, Xaverian College, Manchester, for voluntary service to education.

The Reverend Canon Pamela Margaret Wise, chair of trustees, Ascend Project, for service to the community in South Oxhey, Hertfordshire.

CBE

The Right Reverend Martin Wharton, for service to the Church of England and to the community in the north-east.

Gerard Eadie for services to charity.

OBE

Magnus Calum MacFarlane-Barrow, founder of Mary's Meals charity.

Monsignor John Devine, for services to inter-faith relations in the north-west.
