Rescuers at work after earthquake in Padang, on Sumatra island
Thousands of lives have been devastated by the Indonesian earthquake and the typhoon in the Philippines and wider region. There is a desperate need for food and water - and many require immediate medical attention to survive. With more extreme weather expected, the need is likely to increase.
CAFOD has already pledged £100,000 in emergency aid to partners in Indonesia following the massive earthquake that struck the west coast of Sumatra on September 30. The charity has also pledged £20,000 to Caritas Philippines (NASSA) following Typhoon Ketsana.
