President Obama to meet Pope Benedict

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs  has confirmed that President Barack Obama will meet with Pope Benedict XVI in Rome,  on Friday 10 July.

During the White House daily press briefing on Wednesday, Mr Gibbs said: "On his upcoming trip overseas, on Friday, July 10, the President will visit with the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI to discuss a range of issues, including their shared belief in the dignity of all people. That's on the upcoming trip."

Gibbs added that Mrs Obama would also be accompanying her husband on the visit.
