Pope Benedict sends message on Xt3.com - 9 September 2008

Pope Benedict XVI is sending his first ever message to a social networking site Xt3.com.

Today tens of thousands of young people will find a message from Pope Benedict XVI in their inbox when they log onto Xt3.com.

In his message, recalling the day he celebrated Mass at Randwick Racecourse, Sydney with over 400,000 people in July, the Pope tells the young people that their pilgrimage of faith fills the Church with life and asks them to pray for his impending visit to France.

Since Xt3.com was launched for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney in July its membership has exploded to well over 35,000 from over 170 countries, with many more expected to join over the coming year as Xt3 spreads virally around the global Christian community.

Robert Toone, project director of Xt3.com said: 'We are delighted and deeply honoured to receive the Pope's message. His Holiness is displaying his usual readiness to use the latest technology in his desire to communicate with young people." He also added: "The message adds a unique dimension to our 8th September online celebration to mark 50 days since the end of World Youth Day in Sydney where Xt3.com was launched."

'The launch has been a terrific success. This site started as the official social network for World Youth Day Sydney 2008 and its ongoing focus is to bring people together from all around the world who want to share their experiences, support each other and work together to build a better world. Everyone's invited, everyone's welcome. The papal message is the latest in a series of events which makes us very excited about the future of Xt3.com."

As well as all the regular functions profile pages, friends, photos, discussion groups and events Xt3.com features projects and prayer intentions, and provides a worldwide diocesan structure with a homepage for each diocese, as well a section where you can ask a priest any question on any subject. All importantly, the site is covered by 24/7 moderation to ensure that Xt3 remains a safer and more secure environment. There is also an Xt3 media player and library that currently show the events of WYD 2008 and in the future will help provide a positive alternative culture in the 21st century.

Xt3 stands for Christ in the third millennium.
