Royal Jubilee worship resources a best seller
Comment Email Print
Orders have been flooding in from around the world for the ecumenical worship resources for the Queen's Golden Jubilee prepared by Churches Together Britain and Ireland. Copies have gone by air mail to Africa, Australia, America, Russia, Canada and Burmuda, in the diplomatic bag to Mauritius and Moscow and as an e-mail attachment to Ethiopia, where the chaplain of St Matthew's Church in Addis Ababa is planning a service with the British Consul, inviting ambassadors and staff from Commonwealth Embassies. In Britain and Northern Ireland the material has been purchased by local councils, the offices of Lords Lieutenant, cathedrals, parish churches, schools and country villages. The presidents of CTBI and the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have commended the resources. The Archbishop of Canterbury said: "Churches Together have compiled a number of imaginative resources for use in connection with the celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The material, touching on the themes of thanksgiving, community, service, commitment and jubilee, look back with thanksgiving and point us forward in prayer and expectation to the future." The Archbishop of York said: "I hope that a wide range of church people will find the material useful as they come to plan their worship for the Jubilee celebrations." An ecumenical group convened by CTBI produced the booklet which consists of 26 pages of resources plus a 12 page detachable Order of Service. With readings, prayers based on the Coronation symbols, hymns, music and original line drawings, there are also extracts from broadcasts made by The Queen on her twenty first birthday and more recently at Christmas. The wealth of material can be used in a variety of settings as churches and communities wish. CTBI's Coordinating Secretary for Church Life, the Rev Jean Mayland said: "In the aftermath of the death of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother it seems there is a desire on the part of the public to show their affection and esteem for the Queen who has also served the nation so faithfully and suffered such personal losses in her Jubilee Year. The worship material gives thanks for the ' Golden years of Her Majesty's reign and her example of willing service'. It is a prayer in which we are sure many people will want to join.
