¬†Members of Pax Christi, Christian CND and Trident Ploughshares are heading for Aldermaston near Reading, for the start of the annual five-day peace camp tomorrow. Based at Bluebell Wood next to the west gate of Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment campaigners will hold a carnival and march from Reading station to the town centre starting at 11am on Saturday. On Sunday a Multi-faith service will be held outside the main gate of AWE Aldermaston at 2:30pm. A spokeswoman for Trident Ploughshares said: "AWE Aldermaston and its partner site close by at AWE Burghfield are key installations in Britain's nuclear weapons industry. Aldermaston was recently involved in nuclear weapons tests in America and the UK Government wants to carry out more tests in Britain to refine and develop the UK's nuclear capabilities. "Trident Ploughshares was established in 1998 to challenge the UK's illegal and immoral possession and threatened use of nuclear weapons. Trident Ploughshares activists pledge to dismantle the UK's nuclear arsenal in a peaceful, non-violent, open and accountable manner. So far in the campaign there have been 1,715 arrests, 277 trials, 1,615 days spent in prison and £41,016.70 of fines and compensation orders." "Aldermaston provides the warheads for Britain's four Trident nuclear submarines berthed at Faslane, Scotland, whose deadly arsenal is over a thousand times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb which killed at least 200,000 people in 1945. We invite anyone who is happy to abide by our non-violence guidelines to join us as responsible global citizens in condemning this nuclear madness and celebrating life and hope."
