Cardinal launches UK's first on-line diocesan yearbook
Just weeks after the Vatican issued documents urging the Church to become more involved the Internet - Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor today launched what is probably the world's first complete on-line diocesan yearbook. It is certainly the first in the UK. Under the editorship of Fr Stuart Wilson, the on-line Westminster Yearbook - www.westminsteryearbook.org.uk - was designed by creative director Julie Bennett with Finn Lewis. It contains a mine of information about Westminster which can be found in the print edition: details of parishes; schools; clergy; church organisations; and statistics. In addition the site has links to hundreds of other related sites and will be updated monthly to take account of changes in the diocese. It will also contain a searchable archive. Westminster Yearbook celebrates its 50th birthday this year. Fr Stuart has been editor for the past four years. He explained that he had made a number of changes, in response to users' comments, and said the on-line version has also been put together with "a sensitivity to what people want." Welcoming the new website, Cardinal Cormac expressed his gratitude to Fr Stuart and the design team, saying: "I can see this is an invaluable resource."
