Aylesford wins Lottery support
Comment Email Print
¬†The Friars at Aylesford in Kent have just learnt that the Priory has been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund of over £900,000 towards their Restoration Appeal. The grant, which totals 73% of the restoration costs, will be used to repair the Grade 1 listed 15th Century Gatehouse, which is in imminent danger of collapse. It will also go towards the restoration work on the 17th century Barn which, once completed, will provide shelter for pilgrims and a meeting place for local community groups to use. The Prior, Fr Wilfred McGreal, said: "We are absolutely delighted to hear that our application has been successful. This money will ensure the future of these two beautiful buildings. We still have a little way to go so the fund raising will not stop just yet but it is a terrific weight off our minds. "The work on the Gatehouse will commence in late summer and hopefully the Barn restoration will start shortly afterwards." Any donations to the appeal can be sent to the Prior's Secretary, The Friars, Aylesford, Kent ME20 7BX. Tel: 01622 717272
