Priest goes Mohican
Comment Email Print
¬†A brave North London priest adopted a Mohican haircut at the weekend to help raise funds for his church. The 100 year-old towers at St Ignatius' in Stamford Hill, are badly in need of renovation and the parish must find £330,000 for essential repair work. Parish priest Fr Tim Curtis SJ, said he came up with the idea for the radical haircut after supplying one Sunday at a parish in Cheshunt - where he noticed a similar stunt had been staged. "We made up sponsorship forms" Fr Tim said. "People were given the choice of five different hairstyles: spikey, short back and sides, Mohican, Skinhead and Hare Krishna. I got the style that received the most votes." The idea has been a great success. Fr Tim has already raised £3,000 and money is still coming in. "It doesn't feel too bad," he said. "But it is a bit scratchy at night!." With more than 1,100 parishioners of many different nationalities, St Ignatius is a very lively community, Fr Tim said. There are more than 50 parish groups, including five choirs. If you would like to contribute to their tower fund, please send a cheque to: St Ignatius Catholic Church, 27 High Road, Stamford Hill, London N15 6ND.
