Comment Email Print
A Requiem Mass for Mgr Peter Diem will take place next Wednesday, 12 February at 11.30am at St Francis church, Handsworth in Birmingham. The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, will be the principal celebrant and the Most Reverend Maurice Couve de Murville, Archbishop Emeritus of Birmingham, who did so much to help establish the Vietnamese Chaplaincy in England, will preach. In a statement issued on Monday, Archbishop Vincent Nichols, said: "I am deeply disturbed at the death (Saturday, 25 January 2003) of Mgr Peter Dao Duc Diem. For so many years he has been an outstanding chaplain to the Vietnamese community. As a priest of the Archdiocese of Birmingham we mourn his loss. "The apparently violent and unexpected circumstances of his death make this loss all the harder to bear. We pray for the repose of his soul and the comfort of the Vietnamese Catholics in this country."
