Comment Email Print
¬†Up to 350 Christians from all walks of life and all denominations will "Dare to Share" their faith at a gathering in London on May 10. They will be demonstrating how people are living out the gospel message today. Fifteen organisations and movements connected to Churches Together in England (CTE) as its 'Bodies in Association' are coming together to share their work and insights under the headings: 'Justice and Peace'; 'Young People'; - 'Building Community'; and 'Engaging with people outside the structures of the Church'. The Bodies in Association range from the Christian Council on Ageing to the Student Christian Movement. The event is being organised by the Focolare Movement in collaboration with CTE. Bishop Bernard Longley, (Ecumenical Officer of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales) said: "Dare to Share represents a new and welcome development in the movement for Christian unity. The sharing of life, ideals and commitment to Gospel values among lay people and lay organisations, bringing together Christians of very different backgrounds, is vital to ecumenical progress. It complements, informs and encourages theological dialogue and is an essential counterpart to the work for unity among Church leaders." CTE General Secretary, Revd Bill Snelson, said: "Dare to Share will provide an opportunity to celebrate and to reflect upon the energy, vitality, passion and commitment that exists in the bodies and lay movements of the Church. They enhance its life, build up the fellowship and encourage us all in our discipleship. Not least, they can offer to those on the margins of the Church a way of connecting with the Christian family which may feel less "institutional" and more accessible, so they have a part to play in the Church's work of evangelisation." Rt Rev Michael Doe, Bishop of Swindon and Convener of the Enabling Group of CTE said: "Churches Together in England represents and resources not just all the denominations large and small, but a vast array of ecumenical work both national and local. Much of this is reflected in our Bodies in Association and the day together on May 10th will be a wonderful opportunity to share and celebrate this work." The event will include prayer, music and drama presented by various groups, a reflection by Rt Revd Michael Doe, Bishop of Swindon, and an address by Revd David Coffey, one of the Presidents of Churches Together in England. Dare to Share is at the Institute of Education, Bedford Way, London WC1 (near Euston) from 10.30 - 4.30. Tickets £10 are available by phoning 01707 332950 or email or on the door. Source: CTBI
