Hunt for 'church-friendly' media in Herts and Beds
Comment Email Print
¬†The hunt is on to find the most 'church-friendly' local newspaper, magazine, radio or TV station in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The Beds and Herts Churches Media Trust is asking church members to nominate their local newspaper, magazine, TV or adio station, if they think they are doing a good job in covering church news. Peter Crumpler, who chairs the Christian charity, said: "For the past eight years, we have run a competition to find the most 'media-friendly' churches in the two counties. "This year, to mark the trust's upcoming tenth anniversary, we want to 'turn the tables' and honour those journalists who are doing a good job reporting the wide range of activities in which local churches are involved." The trust, launched in 1994, works with churches of all Christian denominations to help improve their communications. The winning newspaper, magazine or station will receive a £100 prize and a framed certificate. The runner-up will receive £50. They will be encouraged to use the money to run competitions to encourage young aspiring journalists in their area. The 'church-friendly' media competition will be judged by senior church leaders and communications professionals based in the two counties. The nominations will be judged on the amount and range of coverage the publication or station includes, and how far this reflects the life of the churches in its area. Viewers and readers are asked to send their nominations - with up to 150 words summarising why they are nominating the newspaper, magazine or station - to 'Media Competition', Beds and Herts Churches Media Trust c/o Holywell Lodge, 41 Holywell Hill, St Albans, Herts, AL1 1HE. The closing date for nominations is January 30 2004. More information from Peter Crumpler on 01727 869506.
